Singapore Refers Eight Public Officers to Police Over Property Transactions

Singapore has referred eight public officers to the police for further investigation following a review of property transactions that raised questions about the possible use of confidential government planning information.

The officers were among 191 individuals whose property transactions were reviewed after research raised concerns about purchases near locations that were subsequently announced as future Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations.

Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing told Parliament that the referrals were made because the circumstances warranted further examination or there was insufficient information to rule out possible misconduct.

The government emphasized that referral to the police does not establish that any individual has committed an offence. The cases will be subject to further investigation and due process.

The matter highlights the importance of preventing conflicts of interest and protecting confidential government information, particularly when decisions about public infrastructure may affect property values.
