Belgian Police Search Properties Linked to Associates of Congo’s President in Money-Laundering Investigation

Belgian police have searched properties linked to relatives and associates of Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi as part of a money-laundering investigation connected to alleged misappropriation of mining revenues, Reuters reported.

The investigation follows a complaint filed in Belgium in 2025 by non-governmental organizations representing communities in Congo’s Katanga region. The complaint alleges that funds derived from mining revenues were improperly transferred and laundered, benefiting individuals with political connections.

Belgian authorities confirmed that searches took place in Brussels and surrounding areas but did not identify the individuals targeted. Congo’s presidency declined to comment, according to the report.

The investigation has drawn attention to transparency in the management of natural resources and the protection of revenues intended to benefit local communities.

The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the searches do not themselves establish criminal responsibility.
