The United States government has signed a one-year agreement worth $25 million with UNICEF to support the supply of essential maternal, newborn and child health products, alongside selected nutrition supplies, to at least 15 low-income countries.
Under the agreement, UNICEF will coordinate procurement of supplies intended to help maintain access to essential healthcare products in countries facing challenges in securing reliable medical supplies.
The agreement includes countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti and Mali.
The arrangement follows concerns about disruptions to international health assistance and the availability of essential medicines after changes to US foreign-aid programmes.
The supplies are intended to support maternal and child healthcare services, particularly in settings where health systems face financial, logistical or humanitarian pressures.
The agreement represents a targeted effort to maintain essential supplies while broader arrangements for international health assistance continue to evolve.
