Measles Down 75% Across Europe & Central Asia, But Risks Remain

New figures show preliminary data indicating a 75% drop in measles cases across Europe and Central Asia in 2025 compared to the previous year — a major achievement for public health in the region. However, health experts caution that case numbers are still well above pre-pandemic levels, and gaps in routine immunizations continue to fuel outbreaks in some areas. WHO and UNICEF are urging countries to close immunity gaps and achieve the recommended 95% coverage for measles vaccines to prevent regression.
